......PUBLICITY.......They don't want to play the rigorous schedule of the BIG 12 Teams twice a year and particularly Baylor twice a year.......Gonzaga has their comfort zone schedule of playing a few 'Big Name' schools then relaxing with their comfort teams, Pacific U and others........don't think the BIG 12 will go with a Basketball team only........They don't play football.
Sure. But if you have a chance to land one of the new CBB blue bloods to your league, you do it. I mentioned finding a 14th from a G5. Take that a step further because you may not find another BB only program to go there. They don't play football.
Maybe but air travel is a great eliminator. Heck, USC and UCLA will one fly into Newark, NJ and State College, PA for a conference game. Not all the time. But it will happen.KL, agreed mostly but constant travel time for Gonzaga, to Florida, Texas, Ohio, others, and the cost of same will eliminate their interest. Great Publicity, but......Washington, Oregon, those teams could have their choice of any Conference, but a new, comfortable $$ Contract, if it happens, for the Pac 12, they will stay put. However, the Big 12 could work a deal with them buying into the 'Rights', same as all schools. Here we go again with the 'IF' factor.......Nobody knows until it happens, but never forget Brett Yormark NEVER rests, he's always analyzing.
Sic 'em Bears, always be the best you can be.....
Money talks. Gonzaga will make 3-4x more on tv alone. More than enough to cover the increase in travel costs.KL, agreed mostly but constant travel time for Gonzaga, to Florida, Texas, Ohio, others, and the cost of same will eliminate their interest. Net gain to Gonzaga. What about us and our partners? If this materially adds to us, great. If not, I don't see why to do it. How does basketball TV/Final 4 money work?Money talks. Gonzaga will make 3-4x more on tv alone. More than enough to cover the increase in travel costs.
The conference gets bigger $$ shares the deeper teams advance in the tournament...if that's what you're asking.Net gain to Gonzaga. What about us and our partners? If this materially adds to us, great. If not, I don't see why to do it. How does basketball TV/Final 4 money work?
NOW, Clarity is beginning to show.....So, Gonzaga has got to weight the cost and TIME, minimum, 2-3 days flying, some weeks and the wear on the physicality of the players. Gonzaga would travel, then, 12 times, (12 Opponents now) for Conference games and their opponents in the Big 12, one time travel that same distance. Then with their new Conference opponents in the Big 12, could they continue winning as they have to maintain their recruiting and play into the NCAA's. Big decisions vs. $$$$$. Interesting scenario to contemplate. Gonzaga has the BIG decision to make......If we added Gonzaga and 1 other to get to 14 teams, then Gonzaga went to the finals, that would net each of the 14 teams $871,423 for the next 6 years. In comparison, using the same unit price, when Baylor won it, it netted $1,219,993 to each of 10 teams for the next 6 years. The net effect of adding a successful basketball team is a positive. Not huge, but certainly material. Weigh it against the amount it diminishes Baylor's chances of winning the conference and obtaining a higher seed....I don't know. I'm not as excited about it as some of you, but it would be fine with me. Something between yawn and ok, cool, hook 'em.
If the Big 12 wants Gonzaga, it's a no-brainer for Gonzaga to do this. The reality if Gonzaga's footprint in CBB is large enough to the point where a P5 conference will take them and deal with the football angle in its own way. Traveling to Waco is a lot easier than traveling to NYC to play St. John's in the basketball-only Big East.NOW, Clarity is beginning to show.....So, Gonzaga has got to weight the cost and TIME, minimum, 2-3 days flying, some weeks and the wear on the physicality of the players. and the Bears await and stay ready to Sic'm always, beating the Best all the time.
Demetri Goodson, basketball player from Gonzaga transferred to Baylor in 2011 and played football. Don't remember if he started but he played a lot. Maybe Dave can pick up some D backs or wideouts from their BB team for football. They don't play football.
