We had been writing for the last two weeks that the game in Australia against California appeared to be in trouble to nearly not happening. On Tuesday, Baylor AD Ian McCaw said the game will not happen. This was a one-time opportunity. So Baylor will open the 2016 season against FCS Northwestern St. The Demons, whom Baylor played in 2014, will remain the opponent. That game had long been scheduled.
One thing we were hearing is that the PAC 12 (or California) appeared to want to be involved in a more winnable game. That would fall in line with what we were telling you in that the PAC 12 was driving this. So between that and the snails pace of the NCAA waiver approval process, it was a recipe for this game to dissolve.
