Recruiting Update: Carl Sims and Shon Brown

The brothers would like to stick together to play their college ball. Baylor is very high on both of their lists.

Here is what they had to say about whether or not the commitment of LeQuantum McDonald to Baylor would affect their decisions.

“It probably won’t affect me,” Carl said, “but I know it will probably affect my brother. That’s my brother’s best friend. They’ve been together for the past three years, and so it’s gonna be hard because all of us want to be together. It’ll probably make it easy, but it’ll probably make it hard. You just don’t know when the time comes it comes”

Shon then commented, “Like Carl said that’s my best friend, and we want to go to the same school and stuff.”

I didn't put this in the article because I wanted this to stay on the board.

Roderick Trice, 6'4 hoops prospect, class of 2004

Roderick Trice is a a 6'4, 175 pound sophomore wing man who plays guard for Georgia Perimeter Community College.

This season he averaged 12 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

Hoopmasters.com is reporting that Baylor has started looking at him for the 2004 class. Here is a blurb on him and his abilities:

Strong wing can flat out get to hoop off the dribble and finish with surprising strength for as long and lean as he is. He hit a couple of open threes and can handle point in a pinch. He has Oklahoma, Minnesota, Ohio State, Mississippi, Georgia, Western Kentucky, Baylor, Middle Tennessee State, and Appalachian State among schools showing interest.
Last year in the JUCO national playoffs, Trice's team made it all the way to the semi-finals, where he put up 14 points in a losing effort to the eventual champion Southeastern Iowa Community College. This year, his GPC Jaguars lost to Southeastern Illinois in the second round of the national tournament by a score of 64-50, a game in which Trice posted 7 points and 11 rebounds.

Here is a clip from the GA Perimeter official athletic site:(link)

"Among the top prep players in the state of Georgia as a (high school)senior ... two-time All State performer ... named Swainsboro High School's MVP two times ... also ran track and cross county."

Trice was recently named the Region XIV conference player of the year for the 2003-04 season.

Juan Palacios 6'9 basketball recruit, class of 2004

Juan Palacios

Since we get so many inquiries about this highly touted basketall prospect from New York, I decided to start a new thread about him and put all the updates here.

Most of you who have been following this player already know that Juan Palacios is an extremely highly regarded recruit who originally hails from Columbia. Rivals has him rated as a 4 star player, and the 9th best power forward in the entire country for the class of 2004. Juan has been attending school in the U.S. for a couple of years now, and has a top 5 of Baylor, Louisville, Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Texas(no particular order).

Just this weekend his team traveled to Ohio to participate in the 2nd annual Flyin to the Hoop tournament. Palacios had a monster game, scoring 43 points and pulling down 9 rebounds.

I'll continue to post any future updates on this same thread.

Independence Collumn - 4/23/04

As you all know this is information that stays within this thread and within the confines of this forum. Feel free to comment but remember that many important people read the content of this site, and to post accordingly. With that said have fun and share your opinions.

A couple of Dallas Skyline receivers caught something over the past week, and I’m not talking about footballs. Phillip Nevels both received offers from Baylor early this week.

Here’s what Mikail had to say about his first offer

“It’s close to home, they’re trying to come up in the Big 12. I like Baylor. They’re one of my top 5.”

His top 5 is rounded out by LSU, SMU, Texas, and Oklahoma St.

Phillip who is also a pretty good baseball prospect (had 27 steals in 15 games) was also happy to hear from the Bears.

“I liked it, and if they let me play baseball then I’ll really consider going.”

He then listed a top 3 of Rice, Baylor, and Notre Dame with Baylor being the only offer at this point.

He later stated, “[Baylor’s] trying to build up right now. They’ll be alright in a couple of years.”

*******************************************

Killeen Shoemaker DT Roy Miller has moved the Bears up his list to the top spot

Roy said, ““When we went to Baylor I just liked a lot of stuff about it. They’ve got a lot of friendly people, and stuff like that. I just liked the atmosphere, and how the coaches are. I can see myself making an impact there, helping the team and stuff. I see their program coming up and stuff and I want to be a part of that.”

******************************************************

Waco linebacker Shon Brown was seen at Junior Day wearing Baylor attire. He did clarify that he was just chillin’ and that it didn’t mean that he was committed. He has had the Bears at the top of his list along with Arkansas, but it appears other schools are closing the gap. LSU and Oklahoma have been in touch and they have got Shon’s ear. He would still like to make an early commitment, but would like to see his favorites.

***************************************************

Another prospect with Baylor ties is Arlington RB/DE Tony Anderson. Don’t make the mistake of thinking this guy will play DE, because he won’t have it. He is a running back pure and simple.

The Bears have had some ground to make up on the Arlington running back and have made a significant impression on the young man as he is now listing the Bears as one of the 4 schools he is interested in at this point.

Here’s what he had to say about his experience at the Green and Gold Game

“I’m starting to like Baylor a little bit more. When I was younger I really didn’t want to go there, but after talking to the Baylor coaches and stuff I’m starting to feel a little different.”

He is now listing Baylor along with Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M as schools he is showing the most interest in right now.

*******************************************************

Ada, Okla. offensive guard Craig Roark is still interested in the Bears and is planning to at least come down to a game in the fall.

*********************************************************

Terrel Nemons has stated that the Bears are in his top 2 with Texas and he is also starting to mention Kansas. Last week when we talked to him he mentioned how he would be evaluating teams and here is what he had to say about Baylor.

“I’m looking at like Baylor, they really didn’t have a good record last year, but I’m looking at how their program is coming along. I’m looking to the future. I think they’re going to look pretty good in the future.”

He was able to make it to Baylor for the Spring game last weekend to check things out.

Jean Baptiste Bah - basketball prospect, class of 2004

Rivals is reporting that Baylor is starting to recruit Jean Baptiste Bah, a 6'1, 175 pound shooting guard from the class of 2004. Bah originally hails from France, but is currently attending Central Park Christian in Birmingham, Alabama.

Even though he is graduating this year, Bah is strongly considering prep school, which would move him to the class of 2005.
