We wanted to create a separate thread from the massive coaching search update thread, but multiple sources are beginning to confirm Temple HC Matt Rhule to Baylor.

A few bits...

  • 28-23 record as a HC (4 seasons in total)
  • Back to back 10-win seasons
  • Played LB at Penn State
  • Coached one season in the NFL (SB winning NY Giants - 2012)
  • Coaching experience on both defense and offense

Wed: 10:21am - A source tells me that Rhule will bring his entire defensive staff from Temple to Baylor. On the offensive side of the ball, that's another story for the moment. He will most likely bring his current OC from Temple, but will use the offensive side of the ball to hire some 'outsiders' - or coaches with Texas ties, possibly a HS coach or two.

Rhule and his staff are in Waco working, so interviews and phone calls are being made today.

Wed: 10:38am - Sean Padden, Director of Football Operations at Temple, is also joining Rhule's staff at Baylor.

Wed: 1:36pm - Several colleagues and friends are beginning to congratulate Elijah Robinson, the Temple DL coach, on joining Rhule's staff at Baylor.

Thu: 10:34pm -- Your publisher that one person being considered/recommended as that Texas contact could current THSA President David Wetsel, head coach at San Antonio Reagan.
