The camps caused the shift in days. But this is just only temporary.

From the random juke box. When this song came to me, I did the usual YouTube search and found the version. However, there were other versions that were a little risqué. I guess you could see how that song could be used for that purpose. Nonetheless, I really didn’t feel like I could go for the gold here and had kept in on the level. Now if somebody else wants to post a different version.....

That said, we take you back to the early 1980s with this one that makes you feel like cruising the drag and about to take over the world.

Since Baylor AD Ian McCaw revealed at the Big 12 meetings that the program is looking for some upgrades with the non-conference schedule between 2016-20, it’s going to be an interesting search.

I don’t know how accurate www.fbschedules.com is, but I took a look at the P5 schools for this timeframe to see who might be in the market for a game. Here’s what I found:

>Michigan needs a third game for 2018, but the Wolverines are beginning a home-and-home with Arkansas so I don’t see that as a fit.

>Michigan State needs a home-and-home for 2018-19. But the Spartans already have a home-and-home with Arizona State.

>Ohio State is in the same situation. But the Buckeyes already have Oklahoma and TCU on those schedules for that timeframe.

>Penn State needs a game in 2019.

>Illinois appears to need a home-and-home in 2019-2020. Baylor could serve as that possibility?

>Wisconsin appears to have schedule availability in 2018-19.

>Florida State does have some openings in 2017. One-game possibility at AT&T? The Noles already played Oklahoma State there two years ago but they’re a big name and a big draw.

>Louisville may have some openings in 2017 and 2018. The Cardinals always play rival Kentucky. How many points would the Bears and Cardinals put up?

>Does Oregon really have something available in 2018-19?

>Florida has openings in 2018-19 outside of the rivalry with Florida State. The Gators are coming to AT&T in 2017 to play Michigan.

>How about 2018 at the Georgia Dome with Georgia? Probably not. That’s like a home game

>Home and home with Kentucky in 2018-19?

>Home and home with the Tide in 2018-19 or play at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in 2017? The Tide is already coming to AT&T this year (Wisconsin) and 2016 (USC – by the way, if you’re a CFB fan, you have find a way to get there).

>South Carolina has openings in 2016 and beyond. How about playing The Visor? Steve Spurrier is a great coach and would summon exceptional interest.

>Apparently, Auburn has NOTHING for 2018-19.

>LSU may be a possibility. But maybe Atlanta in 2018 for a one-game deal.

>Maybe Mississippi State in 2016 isn’t dead. Another Georgia Dome possibility?

>If you play Ole Miss in 2018, you go for home and home. But the return game is 2020.

>No way Baylor and Texas A&M meet. But I’m still one for seeing that series renewed. Finger pointing ends. Since the jawing between the two fan bases has been hot lately, let the bragging rights begin.

Again, I can’t say that this site is 100 percent accurate. But it’s the best source to finding this kind of thing. If this is pretty close, then the possibilities are more than I thought. Now, we wait for everything to come together. I still think if Baylor can get this done, it’s going to be a one-game deal likely in the Georgia Dome simply because AT&T is pretty locked in with future games. Let the wheels turn.

Here’s what I love about prominent recruits announcing lists, making commitment decisions or talking about their scheduled visits.

As soon as they do that, a major program that hasn’t jumped into the ring does. Is it coincidence? Absolutely not. Is it by design? I don’t see how it can’t be. I’ll give you two examples of moments that make you go hmmm.

>Copperas Cove OL J.P. Urquidez announces in mid-April that he commits to Baylor. Shortly after that move, Alabama comes along to check on him and see if there is something it can do have him reconsider.

>In January, Sachse DB Jared Mayden announces a final three of Ohio State, Oregon and TCU. A couple of days later, Alabama offers.

So what happens in the aftermath? Urquidez says no thanks. Mayden completely scraps his top three and decides to start over.

It’s almost as if that school – in this case Oregon and Alabama – deliberately waited until this news went down before it jumped in to disrupt the process to see if they can alter the flow. A school can offer at its choosing. But given these three prospects where other major programs had already offered, you just have to shake your head and ask, “So where were you all when this was happening?’’

You can’t tell me these programs were indecisive about whether or not to pursue the recruit or they didn’t have him listed high enough on their board. They didn’t forget him about either. They know what they’re doing and want to make the splash. Does it work? Well, if you’re these big-name programs, you can get away with it. If you’re Illinois or Iowa State, no one thinks anything different.

This is just another of the many games inside the game of recruiting that we observe. It’s a bit annoying. But it also reminds us that these programs are multi-million dollar machines. The job for the caretakers – the coaches – is to make sure they do whatever they can within the rules to keep the engine humming.

However, I do find this a little distracting for the kids in this position. You’ve had to sort through so many offers, so much contact, differentiate what school is real and what school is not. The stress over this process is difficult enough when something like this happen. Some kids handle it well other can’t stand it.

Baylor really doesn't get into the middle of this kind of thing. The offer to Tampa Catholic WR Nate Craig-Myers went out months after he had been committed to Auburn. But by the time the staff did, it was pretty well documented that Craig-Myers' commitment to Auburn was rocky. Now, he’s re-opened the process. Despite that, Baylor never went out to Florida to visit him.

Just expect this kind of thing to keep going for the coming years.

Camp week can be fun (well, my wife doesn’t think so) because you see the byproduct of a program that has won consistently and built itself into a national power.

The numbers of kids who attend the camps is a way to measure things. But the draw of the big names at the camp really indicates where things stand.

At Waco, two young men – 2017 DB Jamyest Williams and 2016 WR Tyler Simmons – came about 1,000 miles from Georgia to spend three hours and ask the Baylor coaches to take a look at them. That’s an isolated example. But would these players be coming if Baylor was coming off of consecutive 8-4 seasons? I don’t think so because there’s a lot of teams that can go 8-4. Of course, several commits are there including Urquidez, Silsbee Pat Hudson, Kenan Ivy, Chris Miller and Raleigh Texada.

A day later, Baylor is at Cy Falls, Kameron Martin highlights a who’s who led by Deontay Anderon, Jackson, Hezekiah Jones and Bravvion Roy. Richardson Pearce on Friday could show the same thing. McTelvin Agim said he may show up Saturday in Marshall.

By comparison, Oklahoma had a camp on Monday in Spring. I wasn’t sure of the big-name turnout but it didn’t sound like it was as big as what Baylor had. That tells you where this blue blood is right now and where Baylor is.

It’s good to be the king. Baylor has climbed a mountain. Now, it has to find a way to stay up there. That won’t be easy.

However, the program is taking advantage of the spotlight by having these players show up and just chill with the staff. Would you have even considered that Baylor could be capable of doing this – EVEN AFTER RG3 led Baylor to a 10-3 record and a Heisman Trophy?

People love to be around winners. It’s that simple. Does that mean Baylor is going to get several of these players? If I knew that, I would be at the craps table in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas instead of writing this.

This evolution of Baylor recruiting at the highest level is still in process. I think more and more top names probably still have their doubts about the program’s long-term success. That’s fine. Baylor has been winning for five years. Alabama and Ohio State have been winning for 75 years.

We’ll keep an eye on the Baylor baseball coaching search. But I’ve talked to a couple of people who know the program pretty well and believe that this is Dallas Baptist Dan Heefner’s job to turn down.

Dallas Baptist is a great program. But Baylor’s program has more resources and feeds off the revenue from football. DBU is the big man on campus. College baseball programs just don’t turn profits. If you’re Heefner, you got into this industry because you wanted to move up the ladder. Baylor would give him that opportunity. If former assistant Mitch Thompson does get into this search, I think he will be courtesy candidate and nothing more. His biggest problem is that he’s still connected to the Steve Smith era.

All of the Baylor spring sports are done with the exception of track & field. Baylor's track and field team had seven student-athletes, Trayvon Bromell, George Caddick, Rachel Johnson, Brandon Moore, Annie Rhodes, Raena Rhone and Olicia Williams, earn a spot into the NCAA Championships June 10-14 in Eugene, OR.

Other sports thoughts…

>The Rangers look like a different team. Have a debut Joey Gallo! If the starting pitching can continue to hold up, who knows? If they are in the race, they’re going to have to address the bullpen. No offense to Baylor alum Shawn Tolleson, but I just don’t see him being the closer for the remainder of the year.

>The Astros are off to their best start in franchise history. Amazing. Who are these guys? Again, this team still needs more arms if it’s really in the race come late July. I really like Dallas Keuchel. But this looks like an organization that has fulfilled the idea of tearing it down and rebuilding. Patience was needed. Now it looks like it's paying off.

>Give me the Chicago Blackhawks over the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games in the Stanley Cup Finals.

>I’ll take Golden State over Cleveland in the NBA Finals in six games. I’ll also put the over/under of ABC showing Steph Curry’s mother at 150.

>American Pharoah will get it done and win the Belmont Saturday and become horse racing’s first Triple Crown winner since 1978 when Affirmed did it.

>Again, no traditional Baylor Blitz Friday since we’re doing Blitz’s from the upcoming weekend camps.

Let’s make it a great week.
