A transcript of Baylor head football coach Art Briles meeting with the media on Tuesday:

(Opening remarks:) "We'll put the full pads on Thursday and and scrimmage a little bit over at the stadium with referees.

We're getting guys banged up a little bit which always happens. We had four practices in six days and it takes a little wear and tear on them. But the energy, enthusiasm and retention are all where they need to be at a championship level.

It (the weather) has been OK. Fortunately for Jay and Jenny Allison we've got the indoor facility, so we can always go as scheduled. We'd like to get outside every now and then if we could, and hopefully we can today."

(On moving LaQuan McGowan to H-back and tight end -- Remember Stephen Cook pointed this out last week): That's the plan. We're looking at him as kind of a slot and tight end type of guy. He can certainly help us in the run game in those situations. The hardest thing is practicing him quite honestly because we don't want to take a chance on getting anyone injured. So the way we're looking at it is we've got three games in nonconference to kind of feel it out and see what he can do and teach him what to do in live action.

He's a different cat, he's a big guy.

(QB Seth Russell) He's been good. Mechanically he's good. Timing is huge. We lost Antwan, Levi and Clay and they're all fifth-year guys that played a bunch. The timing is going to take a little bit with the variations at receiver right now.

(Mike linebacker spot)
It's going well. (Grant) Campbell and Aiavion (Edwards) are both doing a good job and of course just like offensively every spot is up. We'll take the best 22 and put them on the field against SMU. That's our job and duty for Baylor University and the football team. We're all evaluating as we go along. Some guys have advantages because they've played a little bit and have put some stuff on tape. But we're going to play the best people when they start putting it in ink instead of pencil. (NOTE: Edwards is rotating between both MLB and WLB)

(Redshirt FR WRs Chris Platt and Ishmael Zamora): They're good, they're wearing down a little bit. They've never had this amount of work at this high of pace so it's a little bit different for them. But they're very talented and can really stretch the field and do a lot of things for us in a variety of ways. Chris with his speed and quickness and fearlessness and Ish with his strength, size and body and has some speed to go with it. Both of those guys bring something to the table that we're going to benefit from.

NOTE II: Travon Blanchard and Patrick Levels are battling it out for the starting position.
