When you check out the Longhorn season, it's got quite a few similarities to Baylor's season. That means Jason and I spent a lot of time talking about injuries, players in the doghouse and Freshmen starting.

The Longhorns have had a rocky start under new coach Tom Herman, going 3-4, heading into the game with Baylor. The Horns have been in three overtime games, losing two and winning one.

For quarterback, they’ve flipped between Freshman Sam Ehlinger (6’2”, 230) and Sophomore Shane Buechele (6’1”, 205.) Ehlinger was put in concussion protocol after Oklahoma State, and it is unclear if he will be available. Buechele is returning from an ankle injury, and the third quarterback is Jerrod Heard, who is mostly used in run based situational packages.

Ehlinger and Buechele are also two of the top five rushers. The leading rusher is Junior Chris Warren III (6'4", 250), who has 307 yards rushing and has added another 176 receiving. Sophomore Kyle Porter (5'10", 220) has added 161 yards. Injuries to the offensive line have hampered the rushing game.

The leading receiver is Collin Johnson (6'6", 220), but after monster games against Maryland and USC, he's tailed off, only getting around 25 yards in each of the last two games. Freshman Reggie Hemphill-Mapps (6'1", 185) is another receiver with 323 yards, but injured his knee last week and may not be available. Senior Armanti Foreman (6'0", 210) is in Tom Herman's doghouse. He played well in the first three games, tailed off against Iowa State, and hasn't played except on special teams since September. There are other receivers that appear to have the tools, but none of them have broken out.

The Longhorn defense has been the strength of the team. Junior linebacker Malik Jefferson(6'3", 240) has 48 solo tackles and 20 assists. Junior safety DeShon Elliott(6'2", 210) has five interceptions with one returned for a touchdown, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. The Longhorns have eleven turnovers.
