Rivals No. 201 Trey Wilson used some free time this past Saturday to travel down to Waco to watch Baylor go through its third spring practice.
The 2023 Garland Lakeview Centennial defensive end watched every moment of how the defensive line moved through its stations. He took note of preciseness of everything.
“It was good,’’ Wilson said. “Great seeing everyone practice. Energy was high and seemed like all the coaches were in sync together.’’
Wilson has drawn 26 offers. The most notable are Michigan, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Ole Miss and Miami (FL). But the Bears are making the case for Wilson to see what this program has to offer. There have been indications that Michigan and Oklahoma State have the edge at this point.
This is not Wilson’s first time to visit. He attended a couple of home games including the Texas game on Oct. 30.
Baylor’s defensive ends need to be nimble, quick and in position to make plays on the perimeter. Wilson was witness to that. He’s also establishing a relationship with Baylor defensive line coach Dennis Johnson.
“The speed at which they were playing stood out,’’ Wilson said. “Everyone in [Johnson’s] room is rangy and able to move just like me. It was easy to see me in the defense.’’
At this point, it’s hard to know when Wilson would be able to return for another practice. The spring game on April 23 is a possibility.
Rated as the No. 12 weakside defensive end in the country, Wilson is the No. 37 player in Texas.

A couple of updates on Saturday visitors. Again, this should be a good group of players coming led by most if not all eight 2023 commits. As always, check out the visitor list thread so you’re up to date.
>One of those appears to be Texas Tech 4-star 2023 DB commit Calvin Simpson-Hunt from Waxahachie. He told us that’s the day he’s looking to visit. It’s not clear if his commitment to the Red Raiders is softening or not. Baylor and LSU recently offered him. Simpson-Hunt has been taking visits to other places including TCU and Stanford.
Simpson-Hunt is just sitting outside the Rivals 250 and is the No. 70 player in Texas. His speed is what has everyone’s attention. At a recent track meet, he recorded a personal-best time of 10.67 seconds.
>Another potential visitor is Katy 2024 tight end Luke Carter. Baylor has not offered him yet.
>Will have more on LSU LB Josh White, who entered the transfer portal Monday, soon. But if you missed it in the spring story on the linebackers, he is also expected to be at Baylor Saturday. Good vibes here.
