Great moment for him and great stuff by Baylor SID to list where all of the Baylor pros are at.

WACO, Texas – Former Baylor baseball player Shea Langeliers was called up by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday.

The Keller, Texas, native will join the A’s in Arlington and make his major league debut against his hometown Texas Rangers as the designated hitter in Tuesday’s contest.

A former All-American during his time at Baylor, Langeliers was selected ninth overall in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves, but was traded to Oakland in March of this year as part of a five-player deal. He was named the 2022 All-Star Futures Game MVP after hitting a solo home run and nabbing a would-be basestealer earlier this summer.

This season, the 24-year-old backstop has slashed .283/.366/.510 with 19 home runs at Oakland’s Triple-A affiliate, Las Vegas Aviators. Over the course of his pro career, Langeliers has hit .266 with 43 round-trippers and 143 runs batted in.

When he debuts, Langeliers will become the 45th Bear all-time to play in the big leagues. He’ll join Daniel Castano (Miami Marlins) and Max Muncy (Los Angeles Dodgers) as active alumni on current 40-man rosters. An additional 13 former Bears are also currently on minor league rosters.

Langeliers hit .289 in his three-year Baylor career with 31 home runs and 124 RBIs. He threw out a total of 70 baserunners between caught stealings and pick-offs and received a Rawlings Gold Glove Award for his defensive prowess in 2018. He garnered unanimous Freshman All-America status as a rookie in 2017, and then was named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 2018 and a third-team All-American by the ABCA in 2019.

Langeliers delivered the memorable walk-off single against TCU in the 2018 Big 12 Championship title game on his way to being named Co-MVP of the tournament. He also set an NCAA postseason record with 11 RBIs as part of a three-home run game against Omaha on June 1, 2019.
