The one common trait about safeties is that they like they hit. And if they can start doing that early in their careers, then it will carry them for however long they play the game.

Baylor coaches were impressed with Arlington Bowie 2024 safety Kristopher Wokomah when they watched him go through their June 24 camp. Wokomah walked out of the camp with an offer.

“In run support, I like to hit,’’ Wokomah said. “At the camp, I ran well. Also performed good in the 1v1s. Playing fast and physical.’’

Wokomah is one of those to watch to see how he develops going into his junior season. But other programs have taken notice. SMU, Washington State and Florida Atlantic are among his early offers. TCU and Texas Tech are taking a look.

But from what Baylor defensive backs coach Kevin Curtis saw from Wokomah during the May evaluation period, there was a reason the staff wanted to look at him again. They invited him to the camp. Baylor has developed a history of developing physical safeties under Dave Aranda.

“I enjoyed working with Coach Curtis. A very attention to detail coach,’’ Wokomah said. “I also liked his drills. They really liked everything. Hips, coverage, speed and physical play in press.”

While the Volunteers struggled in 2021 to a 2-8 season, Wokomah slowly made his way on to the varsity scene. He finished with 25 total tackles (11 solo) along with two defended passes. He was playing behind three seniors. That impacted things.

However, he now has his chance this coming fall to lead the secondary and perhaps help Bowie turn into a playoff contender. Some of the tips he picked up at the camp could make an impact.

“Coming in & out of breaks with speed turns,’’ he said. “I do some of these drills at training so I’m familiar with them. I really liked the camp. It was one of my favorite camps.”

Wokomah also got a chance to work with new Baylor safeties coach Ronnie Wheat. Every first impression matters. This one did as it was Wokomah’s first trip to Baylor to see the campus and the facilities.

“After being around the coaches and meeting them in person, I really like what they are doing, he said. “I think I vibe really well with Coach Wheat.”

Wokomah does not have a Rivals rating at this time.
