Each week, the Big 12 coaches meet with the media to discuss matters pertaining to their programs and the prior week’s game. Baylor head coach Art Briles’ comments were posted earlier on Monday.

Charlie Strong, Texas – The Longhorns (1-1) play host to California (2-0) Saturday: Strong made the decision to change from Tyrone Swoopes to Jerrod Heard right before the Longhorns played Rice. However, Strong admitted the walk through should have been a giveaway. Heard gave some impressions of hope throwing for 120 yards and rushing for 96. With the win over the Owls, the Longhorns lead the overall series, 72-21-1.

David Beaty, Kansas – The Jayhawks (0-2) have a bye: Following a very humbling but not unexpected 55-23 home loss to Memphis, Beaty was asked how things were going. “There’s some things we can build on, but there’s obviously some things that are giving us problems,” Beaty said. “The good news is, all those things we saw on tape are all fixable. We’ve just got to be willing to step up and do them.”…Kansas’ defense has allowed 7.38 yards per play, third-worst in college football and opponents have scored on all 12 red zone opportunities.

Bob Stoops, Oklahoma – The No. 16/17 Sooners (2-0) play host to Tulsa (2-0) Saturday: Following their come-from-behind double overtime 31-24 victory at Tennessee, Oklahoma safety Hatari Byrd and linebacker Eric Striker weren’t exactly gracious. Byrd reportedly extended his middle finger to the crowd. Striker told Vols fans to send their Oklahoma. Stoops said he would discipline them internally. He called their actions inappropriate.

Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State – The No. 25 Cowboys (2-0) have a bye: The Cowboys seem to have some balance in future scheduling. They have a home and home with Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017, Boise State in 2018 and 2021 and Oregon State in 2019 and 2020. The latter should be fun since both the Cowboys and Beavers are orange and black. Wide receiver Brandon Sheperd has been plagued by a dislocated finger and has been limited to three receptions for 50 yards this year.

Bill Snyder, Kansas State – The Wildcats (2-0) play host to Louisiana Tech (0-1) Saturday: KSU has yet to allow a touchdown this year in eight quarters. The only score is a 51-yard field goal to UT-San Antonio. What was notable in the 30-3 win at UTSA was that the Road Runners were held to 229 yards after they collected more than 500 in their opener at Arizona….safety Dante Barnett has been nursing a shoulder injury.

Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia – The Mountaineers (2-0) have a bye: Although West Virginia defeated Liberty 41-17 on Saturday, Holgorsen was not pleased with his defensive line. The Mountaineers recorded no sacks and reportedly applied very little pressure. “It didn’t look good,” Holgorsen told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Did we get to them one time? It looked bad to me out there. We were getting no pressure. We’ll have to talk to Gibby [defensive coordinator Tony Gibson] about getting the blitzes and stuff like that. I thought we were pretty lethargic on defense.’’

Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech – The Red Raiders (2-0) play at Arkansas (1-1) Saturday: The Razorbacks uncharacteristically struggled with the running game and only had 103 yards in the 16-12 loss to Tulsa. Still the Red Raider defense has its own set of issues. In last year’s 49-28 win in Lubbock, the Razorbacks rushed for 438 yards. "Yeah, I'm not sure, obviously, Toledo you've got to give them a lot of credit. But it's a great rushing team still. They have a great running back. He's one of the best players in the country. Their offensive line is one of the most physical in the country. So I expect to see a heavy dose of that. I think they'll be just as good as they were last year. It's just, we have to improve and be better."

Paul Rhoads, Iowa State – The Cyclones (1-1) play at Toledo (1-0) Saturday: It’s not that Iowa State would not have taken Toledo seriously because they couldn’t. First, the Rockets won in Ames last year, 37-30, and are coming off a 16-12 upset at Arkansas. "We wouldn't have underestimated them, anyway, but them beating Arkansas last week really got our attention that we've got to come ready this week and we've got to get our stuff together," Offensive lineman Wendell Taiese told the Des Moines Register. "We've got to fix the flaws quick."

Gary Patterson, TCU – The No. 3/3 Horned Frogs (2-0) play host to SMU (1-1) Saturday: Defensive tackle Davion Pierson has a great chance to return to return Saturday. He missed the first two games with an undisclosed injury. Patterson never said what the injury was other than there was a tweak that was re-aggravated in August…QB Trevone Boykin has thrown 60 TD passes in his career. That places him second on the all-time list behind Andy Dalton (71)…this is the 95th meeting between SMU and TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet. The Horned Frogs lead 47-40-7. Patterson is 11-2 lifetime against the Mustangs.
