Each week, the Big 12 coaches meet with the media to discuss the week that was and the week that is to come. Their comments are taken from either the Big 12 media conference call or other media sources. Baylor’s Art Briles and Kansas State’s Bill Snyder had their comments posted earlier.

Charlie Strong, Texas – The Longhorns (3-5, 2-3) play host to Kansas Saturday: Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman reported that Strong chewed out his staff following the stunning flat performance in the 24-0 loss at Iowa State. “I'm probably hard on my staff,’’ Strong said on Monday at his weekly presser. They get the message during game, after game. They get message for sure on Sunday."The shutout loss to Iowa State was the first to an unranked opponent since 1961. Texas has lost its three road games by a total of 112-10.

David Beaty, Kansas – The Jayhawks (0-8, 0-5) play at Texas Saturday: Their season could end up without a win. But Beaty doesn’t have to look far for inspiration. The World Champion Kansas City Royals had losing seasons in 18 of 19 seasons and lost 106 games in 2006. But things can change. He tweeted out the following on Sunday night after the Royals clinched. “The Royals are an incredible inspiration! Had a plan only they could envision. Stuck to the plan & kept working until they had that Crown!”

Bob Stoops, Oklahoma – The No. 13/14 Sooners (7-1, 4-1) play host to Iowa State Saturday: A statue of Stoops was spotted in Norman on Monday. That wasn’t the way it was supposed to go. Stoops was told one day it would happen but asked if it would be revealed long after he left. AD Joe Castiglione issued a statement: “Several years ago, when we began the process of recognizing our most accomplished coaches, we certainly included Coach Stoops in our planning. While statues of Owen, Wilkinson and Switzer have already been dedicated, Coach Stoops preferred to wait until a later date. Even though approvals of design, sculpting, production and storage took place, it was determined that the dedication would occur at a yet-to-be-determined point in the future. We did not receive any advance notice that the statue was to be transported to campus at this time. Moreover, we are extremely disappointed in the lack of consideration, respect and care that was shown in delivering the statue to Norman. This was completely unnecessary. It certainly is not reflective of the way we feel about Bob or the respect we’ll show him when his extraordinary achievements are properly celebrated.”

Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State – The No. 10/12 Cowboys (8-0, 5-0) play host to TCU Saturday: Starting cornerbacks Kevin Peterson and Ashton Lampkin did not finish the game Saturday against Texas Tech. But practice this week would determine their availability, Gundy said. Defensive end Jimmy Dean was also not at 100 percent. He’s made 34 consecutive starts and is second on the defense with 10. 5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks….wide receiver Jhajuan Seals, who was suspended for the Texas Tech game after being arrested for operating a vehicle with a .08 alcohol content has been reinstated.

Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia – The Mountaineers (3-4, 0-4) play host to Texas Tech Saturday: West Virginia just finished a stretch where its first four Big 12 opponents, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and TCU are 30-1….Holgorsen’s name remains connected to the opening at Miami (FL). One-time front man Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew told Fox Sports that he knows “for a fact” Holgorsen and Texas coach Charlie Strong would take the Miami position…in the reunion with Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury, Holgorsen was the wide receivers coach at Tech when Kingsbury played quarterback.

Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech – The Red Raiders (5-4, 2-4) play at West Virginia on Saturday: Jakeem Grant is going to play his way on the All-Big 12 team. Against Oklahoma State, he gave more validation. He had a 100-yard KOR for a TD and then 178 receiving yards. "I think this year is by far the most mature he's been - on and off the field,’’ Kingsbury said in his weekly presser. “In the way he practices, the way he handles himself in the classroom - he's just grown up each year we've been here. He's the most difficult to tackle in space I've ever been around. He's so quick and then he's really added the physicality to his game, when it comes to blocking in the run game so he's just a special talent, works hard, good kid. I'm really proud of him."

Paul Rhoads, Iowa State – The Cyclones (3-5, 2-3) play at Oklahoma on Saturday: The Cyclones last beat Oklahoma in 1990. But the Sooner rushing attack has picked up in the last two weeks. Rhoads said at his weekly press conference that offensive guard Daniel Burton and defensive tackle Pierre Aka will not play against the Sooners. But Rhoads liked the intensity his team had throughout the 24-0 win over Texas. “That’s where I want to keep them,” Rhoads said. “They were loose on the sideline. At the same time they were focused on what they had to go do on offense and defense and going out and doing it. You get frivolous in that nature and that’s what we want to avoid. It will be a big topic of our direction in this afternoon’s meeting and making sure it takes place on the practice field.”

Gary Patterson, TCU – The No. 3/5 Horned Frogs (8-0, 5-0) play at Oklahoma State Saturday: One of the premiere games of the weekend will be when the Horned Frogs travel to Stillwater, OK to play the Cowboys. “We understand they’re coming in 8-0, very emotional, big crowd,” Patterson said. “If you want to win championships, then what you have to do is you have to find ways to do it yourself. Sometimes you do it with offense. We’ve gotten a little better and better on defense every week. And obviously, we’ll have to be even better this week for us to have a chance to go on somebody else’s turf and win.”….Patterson said he will not watch the CFP rankings show on Tuesday….QB Trevone Boykin, who is in the race for many national awards including the Heisman Trophy, is in the top three in 11 statistical categories. “He hasn’t been talking much to the media, because I think he feels like if he stays focused, he plays better, and that’s really what’s happened,” Patterson said. “He understands that for him to keep reaching higher in his goals, we have to keep reaching higher in our goals as a football team. That goes hand-in-hand.”
