Briles may or may not address the J.W. Ketchum suspension situation at his weekly presser. He only said on the call that it was a “non-status” issue….He also said that he was very impressed on how the defense played against Rice.

On the current WR group in the Big 12: "I think history would prove me right. It’s been strong every year. I’ve been in this league eight years and you flash all the way back. There have been some great guys coming out of here year after year. They have been very productive on Saturdays and proven to be productive on Sundays."

On the intensity with the environment for Texas Tech: “It’s just a great environment. It’s a beautiful stadium [AT&T Stadium]. A lot of alumni from both schools live in the area. It’s going to be an active house. Guys are amped up for a conference game. It tends to bring a good football game to the field. It’s very competitive and exciting at the same time."

On if Tech has improved: “I thought they were good last year. Take 4-5 plays out of the season and 4-8 is 8-4. That’s the same way with us. It’s a balanced league. They’ve always been good. They’re very determined. Kliff and his staff do a great job. [New defensive coordinator David Gibbs] has done a good job for them. I expect another game like we’ve had the last 4-5 years with them.’’

About the Baylor game being in AT&T:
"We should be good to go emotionally. This is what you want. This is played in an NFL Stadium. One of the top stadiums in the world against a Top 5 team. It can’t get much better than that. We would have liked to have won the TCU game. But we’re excited about the challenge."

History of the game against Baylor: “A lot of that has to do with the environment. It’s like a bowl game. The stadium is split in half for both sides. It’s means a lot to both of them."

On Baylor’s defense: “Schematically, Phil [Bennett] does what he does. The guys up front…two of them will be Top 20 [NFL draft] picks. Nothing is easy. They use their safeties in the run game. I’m always impressed with the way Phil gets them to play hard. They’re always in the right spot.''

On Tech QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) status: “He’s day to day. We’ll see how he looks. We’ll let him run around a little bit. [Probably won’t know] until late in the week….Davis [Webb] will get a ton or reps. We have a lot of confidence in him. He works hard and approaches every day like he’s the starter. He’ll be ready to go if that’s what we need to do.’’

On the TCU/Baylor championship hump: “That’s what you’re shooting for. You have to take it. So we’ll keeping grinding.”
