I think the Big 12 did a disservice to the league when the scheduled the top teams to play each other late in November. In the end, OU wins in part because they are able to keep key players the healthiest. Between big games, big players hurt didn't have a chance to heal or backups an opportunity to get settled. TCU, Baylor and OSU suffered the worst.
I believe if Baylor had beaten UT then we would have faced Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. Even without a QB we have a better shot at winning that game. I think OSU had a better shot at beating Oregon or NC State. It might have helped the Big 12 do better nationally as all of the injuries screwed up the final standings.
On another note, I was impressed with some of the athletes on defense in the SEC. LBs are faced and much larger than the Big 12. DBs are larger too as well as many DEs. Overall the SEC seems to be getting the better defensive athletes. I would love to see a breakdown over the past 5 years how they have done nationally in getting their share and more of the top 300 defensive talent in recruiting.
