(Good pressure later) We played complementary football, basically the offense going out there and creating big plays and the defense following up and making stops. Today was a great example of complementary football on both sides.
(Breakthrough road win) It means everything. One thing we talk about is energy. Throughout the week, we had a lot of intentional focus in practice. Doing those things on the field today was all about focus and preparation. When your number’s called, you do your best on the field.
(Pressure on QB) We practiced all situations like getting on the quarterback. Today was just a compliment of what we’ve worked for pretty much all week. We saw a lot of our pressure and our schemes that we ran today. That’s a good thing for us on defense knowing we can practice something and go out and execute at a high level.
(Dillon TD back home) It was truly amazing. Dillon puts the work in day in and day out, and he’s such a big leader on our team. Being back in his home state and being able to show all the work he’s put in is truly amazing. We got to see players help each other out and stay next to each other throughout the whole game because we knew it was going to be a fourth quarter battle.
(Seeing BU razzle dazzle play) It definitely turns it up. As you saw, we were on the sideline partying pretty much when that happened. Definitely it was a complement for the energy on the sideline that we definitely needed.
(Stopping ISU run game) Tuesday and Wednesday, there was major emphasis on stopping the run. We wanted to run the ball too. So those emphasis were definitely on our check list, and I think we completed those tasks. It just shows the focus we had and the intentionality as far as guys playing their techniques and their assignments. It’s a great thing for our defense.
(Forcing turnovers) We started jackers and robbers throughout the preseason. Coming in here and having two turnovers was a big difference. That’s something we actually needed going into conference play. We wish we could have got an extra one to put under our belt. So that was frustrating.
(Playing at BYU) Playing at BYU was a learning lesson. We had to go into the week knowing we can’t let the outside affect the inside. It definitely helped us prepare for this fight today. We were playing more in our control.
