The Bears opened the season with a win over a very good Mustangs team. They broke a 5-5 with three runs in the bottom of eighth. A sacrifice fly started the rally and then Logan Brown gave Baylor breathing room with Logan Brown's two-run triple.

Cal-Poly got a run in the top of the ninth but RHP Shawn Spicer was able to collect the save and help Baylor start the season the right way.

Right-hander Nick Lewis got the win in relief of Drew Tolson who only went four innings.

The series continues at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Baylor Ballpark. There's time to watch the basketball game (starts at noon) and then head over to the yard and watch some baseball. RHP Ryan Smith is scheduled to get the start.
