This is a pretty good read from Super Bowl Nation;
Big 12 Championship Game Dominoes
Remember, it's primarily a BYU site. They're saying the B1G and a few others are going to attempt to block the B12 championship game unless there are twelve teams in the conference. The B12 whiffed by passing on Louisville and Pitt, plus a couple of others, back when DeLoss Dodds was trying to court Notre Dame, and now the pickings are a lot more slim.
The concern is that the B12, without a championship game, gets left out of the final four. Oklahoma didn't help by getting treated by Clemson like Rick Grimes treats zombies, but here we are. The injuries to Baylor and TCU hurt this year, as one of them should have been in the final four, and the other in the Cotton Bowl. This put Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in those two games, and they didn't belong there.
If the vote goes that you MUST have twelve teams to have a championship game, the priorities become
(1) traveling partner for WVU
(2) team with a fan base
(3) some way to split the divisions
That means the available teams are probably BYU and Cincinnati, although Cincinnati breaks the rule of "never take a team into your conference that's named after a city or a direction. "
Kevin doesn't like the idea of BYU, but they have a national fan base, and play competitive football.
Outside of them, there's not a whole lot out there.
