Stephen will be out at the presser. We'll have the Big 12 coaches corner later Monday night.

On Lamar: “I’ve kept up with it pretty good with [Head coach] Ray [Woodard] and [defensive coordinator] Craig [McGallion]. Craig’s brother and I were at UH at the time. I think it’s been great [noted Baylor alum] Walter Umphrey has helped getting that program going. It’s great for the Golden Triangle.”
On the opener against SMU: "I like the fact that we won. Secondly, we were going into a pretty energized situation with SMU and coach [Chad] Morris. We knew they would be motivated. I like how we fought off those factors and came out with a win. There were 2-3 offensive series where we weren’t very productive. Penalties still seem to be an issue. But settling down from a defensive standpoint from early in the game was good. SMU’s good. They’ll get a lot better.''
On QB Seth Russell: "He did what we thought he would. The [completion] percentage was down. But the production was high and that’s all that matters. He did a good job of protecting the ball and handling the expectations extremely well.
“It was a whole different scenario for him. Going home. There was a lot of pressure. But he handled it real well. He did just what he did in practice. That part pleased us. Everything he saw was right on.’’
On expectations beyond beating Lamar: "First and foremost, it’s our job to win. Then when it comes to doing whatever within that victory …our deal is we’ve got to get better as a football team. Our motivation is to be better than a week ago. Now we have something to coach off of and critique off of.’’
On Baylor President Ken Starr backing him: “We’ll always do what we’ve done. As much background checking as we can with their coaches and teachers plus the academic records. It’s an ongoing process. It’s a privilege to come to Baylor University."
On not redshirting QB Jarrett Stidham: "As the process unfolded over the last couple of weeks [of fall camp], we still weren’t sure if we were going to redshirt him. But we were able to take Chris [Johnson] and get him into the WR corps. Chris will help us down the road. That allowed Jarrett to be No. 2. He’s very capable…here we go."
On keeping the WRs happy: "It’s not easy to do. But it’s something you just hope guys understand the big picture and that’s what everybody needs to be looking at.’’
On WR Jay Lee catching 3 TDs: “He’s a fifth-year guy. He’s a guy that has to step up this season. We knew that. He knew that. He took advantage.’’
