Here are the highlights of his 10 minutes with the media. Stephen Cook will be at his presser this afternoon and post the video later. The Big 12 Coaches Corner will follow later Monday night.

On Baylor, Bowling Green (Dino Babers) and Tulsa (Philip Montgomery) being among the top offenses in college football and how transferrable it is: “I really didn’t know that was the case right now. It’s all about believing in your system. We have people who have been with us a long time and they know the approach from an offensive standpoint. From our standpoint, we’re still trying to find ourselves offensively.’’

On why this offense is criticized for being easy (a knock for developing players): "I haven’t thought of it from that standpoint. Why make things difficult if you don’t have to. That’s just opinions."

On recruiting challenges at Houston and Baylor (asked by Rivals Rob Cassidy): "At Houston, we could recruit the city pretty easily. Some kids wanted in and some wanted out of the city. It was up to each family. At Baylor, once again, we’re building a program. And the best thing is we sell is our location. It’s a great location. It’s right in the middle of Texas. It’s convenient for the family to come here."

On practicing on defense against the Hail Mary: “We drill it on Fridays. How you practice is a good question. If everybody knew how to do it, you would be successful. Really, you’re just throwing it up there and hope you get fortunate. It’s always been that way for decades."

On why TE Tre’Von Armstead was dismissed: “It’s a violation of team policy. I can’t comment on it.’’

On the use of tight ends in this offense: “It varies from year to year and with personnel. But I’d say it’s about 50 percent of us having a tight end on the field this year. That’s a little heavy for us. We’re usually not that heavy. We’ll see where it goes from here."

On LaQuan McGowan being used more: “He’s going to have to be ready. But we have Gus Penning who can play for us. But the big man…we’ve got to tighten it up with him and see an extra bounce in his step. Last week in practice, we increased his reps and awareness. We hope to see improvement over the next few weeks."

On the Big 12 2-0 vs. the SEC: “It can’t hurt. It’s a positive for Big 12."

On if he thinks the defense is ready to be more dominant: "It’s hard to judge against yourself. You hope you get guys ready. But offensively, defensively and special teams, we’re not near where we need to be if we want to make another run at a Big 12 championship."

On Baylor opponent this week - Rice - running 96 plays against Texas: "It did catch my attention. The job David [Baliff] and his staff have done….overall, they’re as consistent a D1 program in Texas. They’ve got a good solid program. They’re a tough out. We’ve got a lot of respect for them.’’
