Guys,

Here is a copy of a story that I posted on the outside board. Read my comments further on down in this thread.

"It's been less than a week since Scott Drew was hired as the head coach at Baylor University, but Drew and the two assistants (Mark Morefield and Matt Driscoll) that he brought with him Valparaiso have hit the ground running, as 6'2 Trent Meacham from Champaign (Centennial) IL and 6'6 Jimmy Binnie from Johnston (H.S.) IA both are finishing up their official visits today and, according to our International Editor Chris Johnson, they already have a verbal commitment from 6'11 Mamadou Diene from Senegal. We're talking about a big time athlete who runs and leaps extremely well; is a good rebounder, shot blocker and passer; is skilled offensively; and has a baby hook shot that he makes with either hand. Diene also has a great feel for the game, which is not surprising, because he's a straight A student and will graduate high school when he's still only 16-year-old next spring. Diene also recently attended the Babacar Sy Basketball Camp in the Senegal in July and was ranked as the best player in camp. Sy, who is very familiar with both Diene and 6'11 Jr Khadim "Bamba" Fall, who is enrolling at Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA this fall, thinks Diene is the better of the two right now, although Diene is a younger than Fall. Diene also is meaner, tougher and more ready to step in and play immediately than Fall. So when we put all this into perspective, if Fall is ranked among the top 30 juniors nationally by the HOOP SCOOP, Diene probably should be in that same top range 30 nationally in the senior class and he probably has an even bigger upside."

A little later in the article, they say that Baylor might have the best class in the history of the school.

"Getting back to Baylor, Diene will be the cornerstone for a five-man recruiting class, which potentially could include Meachem, Binnie, and 6'8 Juan Diego Palacios, who is just returning for his native Columbia to Centereach (Our Savior New American) NY. Remember, Drew and Morefield were the ones who discovered Palacios in South America two years ago when he was only 15-year-old playing in the 18-Under South American Tournament and were influential in getting him to attend high school in the United States. Baylor also is in the hunt for several other top level players, like 5'11 Dupree Fletcher from Milwaukee (Rufus King) WI and 6'8 Al Horford from Grand Ledge (H.S.) MI. So let's say they hit the jackpot and get Meachem, Binnie, Palacios, and either Fletcher or Horford to go along with Diene. Not only would we be talking about a top five recruiting class, but we'd also be talking about what potentially might be the best recruiting class in the history of the school, which would be no small accomplishment when one remembers all the problems that Drew has inherited from the previous regime."
