OU President came out this week stating that the Big 12 should consider expansion. Really? So did the NCAA when they asked the Big 12 to consider a championship game for the conference. Having 10 teams may have kept either Baylor or TCU out of national playoffs last year. But what is really going on?

OU and UT had not moving in the right direction. Stoops just hired a new OC after not being able to convince TCU OCs to jump to OU. Who saw that coming? Top 2 QBs in the state commit to Baylor and TCU this week. OU gets consolation prize and UT is shut out. It has been reported that 10,000 people don't renew their season tickets for UT football games. Supposedly the beer approval is to help generate needed revenue?

With Baylor and TCU seeming taking another road to the top team in conference this year it doesn't bode well for UT or OU. Their fans and some administration are saying the reasons why OU/UT are down are due to the conference. It gets harder as Baylor/TCU get stronger. They say their fans don't want to go watch Baylor or TCU or KState, etc. Their fans want A&M, Nebraska, etc. If they were in a better conference all would be well - recruiting picks up, fan support picks up, etc.

Was Boren's comment a veiled threat that if the Big 12 doesn't do something OU is going to look around? Was Boren's comments a salvo to let the Big 12 know OU is considering leaving? There is no doubt that a lot of OU fans are mad at Boren for not jumping to PAC 12 when they had the chance. That door is still open and OU can probably leave now without OSU.

Interesting times in the Big 12 and as many of you know I don't think the Big 12 has staying power in current configuration. Things can change and the sky isn't falling, but I think there will continue to be interesting rumors and conjectures about the Big 12 in the next few years.
