This might be a little old for some but new for others. But since we have closure to Art Briles tenure at Baylor, this might be the right time to pass this along.

We had our Hot Board a few weeks ago noting those who could be candidates for the job if it doesn't go to acting HS Jim Grobe. From what we understand through channels there was initial interest expressed by those who represent Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy and Auburn coach Gus Malzahn.

Each is going into an interesting 2016. While Oklahoma State went to the Sugar Bowl, that team pretty much fell apart at the end and the Cowboys are expected to be down. Gundy has spent time at Baylor as an assistant. The pressure on Malzahn is heating up at Auburn since the Tigers are a combined 6-10 in the SEC between 2014-15. They've been to bowl games. They just haven't been to the right bowl games.

Once this all starts to clear, you're probably going to hear similar reports, rumors etc about coaches who have their people contacting Baylor's people. You may see that intensify a little more in October when the fate of someone's season is pretty much defined.

Even if this interest was tepid, it does reveal what people think of the job. Nothing wrong with the kicking the tires. That's what this transient industry is all about.

Just letting you know.
