From the Austin American Statesman:
As a subplot, head coach Charlie Strong will need to clear up the whereabouts of four recruits.
Wide receiver Gilbert Johnson, offensive lineman Ronnie Major and tight end Devonaire Clarington are dealing with academic issues and had not yet qualified when Strong spoke to reporters at Big 12 media days two weeks ago. Defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin is not expected to qualify and has said he will not enroll at Texas.
Reached by phone on Wednesday, Clarington declined to say whether he’d be in camp and that he’d have more to say on Thursday. If available, the big-bodied passing target will compete against second-year tight ends Blake Whitely and Andrew Beck.
Likewise, quarterback Matthew Merrick declined to say if he’d be joining the team for camp or if he’ll continue with his original plan to grayshirt and enroll in January.
