OMAHA, Neb. – Baylor senior offensive lineman Spencer Drango was announced as one of three finalists for the 2015 Outland Trophy on Tuesday afternoon on The Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special on ESPNU.
The Outland Trophy has been awarded to the best interior lineman in college football on offense or defense since 1946.
Drango becomes the third Baylor player to be selected as an Outland Trophy finalist, joining Santana Dotson (1991) and Cyril Richardson (2013).
As a four-year starter at left tackle, Drango is the leader for a Baylor offensive line that blocks for the nation's top offense as the Bears are averaging 644.1 yards per game and scoring 53.8 points per contest.
The Cedar Park, Texas, product has helped Baylor's rushing attack rank fourth in the country with 293.4 yards per contest. Drango is also a key component in helping the Bears give up only 1.2 sacks per game, which ranks 19th-best nationally and leads the Big 12.
Drango has a team-high coaches' grade average of 90.5 percent through the first 10 games of the season. He has had at least three knockdowns in every game this year and has a team-best total of 40.
The other two finalists up for the award are Joshua Garnett, Stanford offensive guard; and A’Shawn Robinson, Alabama defensive tackle. The finalists were selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), in a call of its 2015 All-America Committee.
