I just finished a book called Meat Market by Bruce Feldman chronicling the year (2006) Ed Orgeron allowed the author complete access to the Ole Miss recruiting process. It's not the best written book ever, but did shed some interesting light on recruiting. Not that it settles one of the running arguments we have around here, but here are a few passages you guys may (a) find interesting and (b) cause you to cringe at a few things you have written (regarding b. I'm identifying myself in particular):
"Still, every program in the country has someone in its office monitoring the two biggest online networks, Rivals.com and Scout.com, for rumors."
"(Coach Dave) Corrao's first big move for the Rebels was a consequence of his having scrutinized the Internet recruiting site lists...he went down a list from Rivals.com anyway, and sure enough, he found one guy who was (uncommitted)."
"Orgeron used the waiting time...to hop on the Ole Miss rivals and Scout sites at a computer station and surf for recruiting updates."
"Most coaches say they don't pay attention to what kind of rankings recruits get,but Orgeron admits that he does."
Hey Coach! I promised the boys I'd get them a 2016 commit by midnight last night. I'll have one Devin Duvernay to go, please! Help a Baylor brother out here, man.
