QUICK SUMMARY FROM BAYLOR'S WIN OVER IOWA STATE

Much better in the second half as the Bears finished 40 percent for the game (just 5-20 from 3-point range) and held ISU to 39.7. The Cyclones top scoring targets in Tyrese Haliburton and Rasir Bolton each were held below double figures. Haliburton had 6, while Bolton had 9.

The Bears got their usual from Jared Butler with 19. MacCio Teague with a bad night with 2 points. Didn't have a field goal. But Davion Mitchell had 17, while Freddie Gillespie added 14 and Mark Vital with 11.

Bears owned the glass, 45-33. At Oklahoma State Saturday at 11 am.

The No. 2 team in the country returns home for the first time since Jan. 4 for a meeting against the Cyclones who are going through a pretty rough season. There are solid wins over Alabama and Seton Hall. But there's the really bad 70-68 loss to Florida A&M, a guarantee game. Iowa State opened the conference season with losses at TCU (81-79) at home to Kansas (79-63). But they rebounded with a win over Oklahoma (81-68).

Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm's program has had its share of elite scorers over the years. The latest is sophomore guard Tyrese Haliburton who has seen his scoring average jump 10 points per game from six in 2018-19 to 16 this season. Sophomore guard Rasir Bolton is also a scoring threat 15 points. It's a guard friendly approach. Baylor's man defense will have its work cut out for it. But it has shown it can shut down some pretty potent opponents thus far this season.

The Cyclones average about 78 points per game and take care of the ball (11 turnovers per game). They're a good shooting team at 45 percent but soft from behind the arc at 32 percent. What they don't do well is chase the ball. Opponents are averaging 71 points per game, shooting 44 percent overall and nearly 38 percent from 3-point range.

This could be a game where Baylor could get well from the 3-point line and get some good looks. They had a good 3-point shooting week and lifted the percentage to 36. As good as they have been defensively and as emotional as it was with a big week with wins at Texas Tech and the first-ever win at Kansas, the Bears just have to guard against a letdown.

What's getting better about 3-guard look between Jared Butler (16.7 ppg), MaCio Teague (14.6) and Davion Mitchell (9.6) is that Mitchell strung together double figure efforts in Lubbock and Lawrence. When this offense has a strong third scoring threat, it becomes tougher to handle.

The Bears and Cyclones have a history of playing entertaining games.

And yes, if you don't have ESPN+, you're not going to be able to watch this game.
