Baylor men’s basketball released its entire 2015-16 schedule on Thursday, following the Big 12 Conference office’s release of the composite conference slate. Baylor is slated to play 16 games against 2015 NCAA Tournament teams and at least 18 games on ESPN networks, in addition to one game on CBS.
Baylor opens the season Nov. 13 with a home game against Stephen F. Austin, a team that went 29-5 and advanced to the 2015 NCAA Tournament. The Bears were one of only a handful of teams to defeat SFA last season, claiming a 67-51 win on Nov. 24.
The Bears then hit the road to play at Oregon, another 2015 NCAA Tournament team, as part of the ESPN College Hoops Tipoff Marathon. That game will be played on Monday, Nov. 16, and will tip off at 10:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
BU returns home for six consecutive games at the Ferrell Center over a 19-day span, beginning with a Nov. 20 game against Jackson State. The Bears then host Savannah State (Nov. 23), Arkansas State (Nov. 27), Prairie View A&M (Dec. 2), Vanderbilt (Dec. 6) and Northwestern State (Dec. 8). Tipoff times and television for those games are to be determined, but every game on the schedule will be televised in some capacity. The games at Oregon and at home against Jackson State, Savannah State and Arkansas State are all part of the Global Sports Shootout.
The Dec. 6 meeting against Vanderbilt is one of three non-conference games SEC teams. BU also goes to Texas A&M on Dec. 19 and hosts 2015 NCAA Tournament participant Georgia on Jan. 30 as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Game times and television networks are to be determined for those games, though the Georgia game will be on ESPN2 regardless of tipoff time.
Baylor also has a game scheduled against Hardin-Simmons on Dec. 16, which is tentatively scheduled to be played at Fort Hood. Following the Battle of the Brazos, Baylor returns home to host another tournament team from last season, New Mexico State (Dec. 23), followed by a home game against Texas Southern (Dec. 29).
BU opens conference play Jan. 2 at Kansas in a game that will be televised on CBS. The Bears host Oklahoma State (Jan. 5, ESPN2) before traveling to Iowa State (Jan. 9, ESPN2), a place where they won for the first time in program history a season ago.
Baylor then hosts TCU (Jan. 13, ESPNEWS) and heads to Texas Tech (Jan. 16, third-tied TV network) before returning home for games against Kansas State (Jan. 20, ESPNEWS) and Oklahoma (Jan. 23, ESPN/2).
The Bears travel to Oklahoma State (Jan. 27, ESPNU) before returning home for the Big 12/SEC Challenge game against Georgia (Jan. 30, ESPN2) and an ESPN Big Monday home game against Texas (Feb. 1, ESPN).
Five of BU’s next eight games are on the road, with trips to West Virginia (Feb. 6, ESPN2), Kansas State (Feb. 10, ESPNEWS), Texas (Feb. 20, ESPN/2), TCU (Feb. 27, ESPNU and Oklahoma (March 1, ESPN2). Baylor hosts consecutive home games against Texas Tech (Feb. 13, ESPNU) and Iowa State (Feb. 16, ESPN2), and the Bears close the regular season by hosting West Virginia (March 5, ESPN/2).
The 20th-annual Phillips 66 2016 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship runs March 9-12 at Kansas City’s Sprint Center.
All non-conference home games that picked up by ESPN networks will air on either FOX Sports Southwest or FOX Sports Plus as part of the Bears’ third-tier TV package, BaylorVision on FOX Sports.
