Gale Sayers was my first hero. Not from watching him play, I was born his rookie year, but from the movie Brian’s Song which had a profound effect upon me. I read his book I Am Third when I was 10 years old and still have it. I wore a “3” on a chain for years to remind myself that the Lord is first, my family is second and I am third. His death today really bothered me. Nobody will be wearing number 48 for KU Saturday. and nobody ever will.
