knew it when he felt it and as he weighed the gravity of his Baylor offer.

The Lorena 2024 wide receiver also is now the blockbuster trend setter. Shortly after Baylor concluded its Green & Gold Spring game, the playmaker began this class with a statement as the first commitment.

For now, the Rivals No. 214 prospect drew only Baylor and Oklahoma State offers. More may follow. That likely won’t matter.

“It’s exciting,’’ Porter said. “It almost feels unreal to be where I am. But I’m really blessed to have gotten the opportunity to be with Baylor, and now it’s just time to work.’’

While he may have two more years of high school football play, it’s going to be quite the follow to see if those seasons can top what he did in 2021. Porter caught 58 passes for 1,265 yards and 13 scores as Lorena (14-2) won the 2021 Class 3A Division I state championship.

He was the vertical threat in every way. Porter averaged nearly 22 yards per reception. With a vertical and 6-1 frame to match, the projections for college could go anywhere.

Baylor coaches were on Porter from the outset. It paid off including the late arrival as Dallas Baker as the new wide receivers coach.

“They are amazing coaches,’’ Porter said. “The energy they bring to the table is astonishing. I am glad that I will have them as my coaches these next few years.
“They need someone to go get the ball. I can do that all day if feels like. I think i will fit good with my team.”

Porter’s rating and national acclaim continues a lately trend for Dave Aranda’s program. More recruits of his caliber are drawn to Baylor and check it out and seriously consider what this program is on the cusp of attempting to do – a bona fide national power.

Earlier in the week, Rivals No. 1 2024 prospect, Duncanville defensive end Colin Simmons, was on campus for a spring practice.

“It’s a great college,’’ Porter said. “The football program is off the charts. Energy is key, and they have so much of it. It makes me happy to be where I am.”

With 5.8 rating and four stars, Porter is the No. 36 receiver in the country and the No. 25 player in Texas.
