Editor’s Note: Great work by our Rivals National Analyst Russ Wood who was all over this recruitment and noting how Baylor was positioned to land Asemota
Winning national championships has its advantages. Baylor’s national/international recruiting footprint continues to expand.
And the 2024 class got off to an exceptional start when Rivals No. 13 Jason Asemota announced his commitment to Scott Drew’s program. Asemota is on his official visit to Baylor this weekend.
The Bears were the clear leader for the small forward from Glendale (AZ) Hillcrest Prep. Earlier in the week, he announced a Top 8 that included Memphis, LSU, Arizona State, Stanford, Ohio State, Kansas and Oregon.
However, Asemota has said on several occasion how his relationship with the staff has been one of the key parts of his recruitment.
He also wants to be a difference maker in the United States. His parent immigrated to the United States from Nigeria. He is a first-generation American.
At 6-9, he has developed a pretty good jump shot, especially from the arc. He’s what you would call a slasher. He can drive to the basket in transition but can also shoot off the bounce or catch and shoot and feel comfortable doing either.
Over the last three seasons, the Bears have secured some of the nation’s best. The 2021 class featured the NBA one-and-dones Jeremy Sochan and Kendall Brown. In 2022 it was Rivals No. 9 Keyonte George.
For 2023, it’s Branson (MO) shooting guard and Rivals No. 17 Ja’Kobe Walter. Finland’s Mirro Little doesn’t have a ranking yet as he is overseas. However, he is transferring to play in the United States this season at Sunrise Christian in Wichita.
