Baker Among Nine Recognized By NFF Dallas

DALLAS, Texas - Baylor offensive lineman Troy Baker was among nine area football players named to the 2015 Collegiate Gridiron Club of Dallas Scholar-Athletes list, the National Football Foundation (NFF) Gridiron Club of Dallas announced Wednesday. The student-athletes will be recognized at the club's annual banquet to be held April 6 at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.

Baker, a 10-time selection to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 first team, graduated in December 2012 with a degree in finance. He is currently working on an MBA.

The Waco, Texas, product concluded his Baylor career with 22 starts and 33 games played as a member of the most successful era in program history. Hampered by knee injuries in both his junior and senior seasons, Baker was still a key component of BU's offensive line that blocked for the nation's No. 1 offense in 2013 and 2014. In his five years on campus, Baker was part of the winningest class in school history. With his help, the Bears had a school-record five straight bowl teams, two conference championships (2013 & 2014 Big 12 titles) and two bowl wins in four seasons of play following his redshirt year. Baker also was part of BU's incredible 26-1 home record (40-12 overall).

The Bears have now had one honoree in the each of the last four years with Baker joining Stefan Huber (2014), Lanear Sampson (2013) and Nick Florence (2012). Joe Pawelek's 2010 inclusion gives BU a total of five former letterwinners on the prestigious scholar-athlete list.
